New Study: Uncovering The Real Challenges Faced By Family Caregivers
Table of contents
Introduction
Olera is proud to announce that we've conducted a study, now peer-reviewed and published in JMIR Aging, to understand the needs and challenges of family caregivers for those living with dementia in the U.S.
The dementia public health crisis is growing, and family caregivers are on the front lines. We wanted to find out what they're dealing with and how we might be able to help. Here's what we learned:
Key Findings
- Family caregivers bear a considerable burden: The escalating dementia crisis in public health has placed an immense strain on family caregivers. Their role in managing the disease, often without adequate training or resources, weighs heavy.
- Most caregivers are spouses or children: Our study shows that the majority of family caregivers are the spouses of people living with dementia. Following them are children and children-in-law, and the vast majority of these caregivers are women.
- A digital platform could be the lifeline caregivers need: The research concludes that an integral part of supporting these caregivers could be a dedicated digital platform. This platform would provide resources, vital information, and most importantly, a supportive community network to help navigate their caregiving journey.
Next Steps
These findings have solidified our commitment to developing our platform to help alleviate some of the burdens that caregivers frequently face. We are actively integrating the insights from our research to create an ever more effective tool to assist caregivers.
As we celebrate our contribution to JMIR Aging, we look forward to continuing to use research to shape our path forward. Ultimately, our goal at Olera is to guide families through the senior care process and connect them with local resources, providing valuable, critical support in their time of need.
