I just moved into Firewheel Town Village on Monday, December 1, 2025. The residents, the activities, the amenities, the security, my apartment, the building are all outstanding. The location of the complex is awesome and is right next door to Superwalmart. The view from my 4th floor apartment is fabulous- a zen garden with old growth trees, birds, a beautiful fountain which I can see and hear from my appartment. This is absolutely the most wonderful appartment of my life. Yet the manager has a lot to learn about federal law which protects people with emotional support animals ordered by their doctor. She did not accept the letter from my doctor as being enough. She told me that I must also have official emotional support animal documentation from a certified company. I didn’t know any better and paid over $500 for certificates, cards, vests, etc. from a company called American Service Pets. According to federal law, someone with an emotional disorder can ask their doctor to evaluate the situation in order to see if the patient qualifies for an emotional support animal. I do. Therefore according to federal law, I have the right to have my pets with me at no cost. No pet deposits . No pet rent. And no unnecessary expensive documentation is needed. Since I had already bought the very expensive documentation and accessories, I showed the manager the deduction from my online checking account showing the name of the company. She explained that it was not good enough. She had to have the paper documentation in her hand that had been mailed not emailed from the company. I cried in her office in front if my son. She was totally uncaring and continued to look at her laptop. What to do with Bella and Monty , my fantastic cats? I was so worried . I could not bear to take them to the pound which used to be infamous for euthanizing animals. If they weren’t killed or neglected or abused, a stranger - if they were lucky- might adopt them but probably not together. So each one would lose me and my son as well as a brother or sister. They are so sweet and good. They do not deserve that. The manager then said that if we paid $1000 , we could move them in today. I didn’t have that much money left after paying for the movers, the rent I owed to my old appartment complex and the rent and deposits at the new appartments for independent living designed for seniors 55 and over. My son helped me with absolute everything that day — his only day off that week —but he did not have $1000 to spare either while we all waited for the documentation which was not even necessary. Ok. The cats could not move in with me that day December 1, 2025. My friend does not allow animals ever in her home. I thought that maybe the documentation would arrive that day. The manager had no idea when the mail came. It varies, she said. So I asked my friend if the cats in their carriers could stay 3 hours in her house. She said no — no animals ever. But there is the Eastgate Animal Pet Center and Hospital where they could be lodged in Lake Highlands in Dallas. Great, I said. My son took the sweet sweet cats there. They wanted $700 a night to board them because one of them was not up to date with doctor visits and vaccines. What to do with my beautiful innocent cats?? No one wanted to care for them. I could absolutely not move them in , despite my doctor’ s letter. My poor son drove around for 3 hours with those tired and hungry cats in their carriers. Finally he remembered a friend who owed him a very big favor. My son said that he did not have to pay back the $2000 he owed my son if he kept the 2 cats for a few days. Finally. Reluctantly he agreed . My son brought in the cats in their carriers along with their food and toys. He only had to care for the cats a few days, my son told him. My son called me to tell me that my cats would be cared for for a few days . I cried for joy. They weren’t going to the pound. They would be safe until the documentation arrived. The next day I called the company to find out when the papers would arrive . ????
