My Dad was recently a three-day tenant of the Rocky Mountain Assisted Living facility at Quincy and Wadsworth. Long-time Alzheimer's sufferer, he was placed on the 10th of October, and passed away at the facility sometime in the early morning hours of October 13th. While we do not blame the facility for his death, we are questioning his treatment (and ours) in the hours AFTER. We were NEVER contacted by ANY staff at the home. We have no actual time of passing, as a coroner was not called to the home, and it was obvious by the time my brother found him on the camera inside his room and showed up at his room at 5:30am, that rigor mortis had already set in (which takes hours)...the time listed on the death certificate now appears to be the time paramedics were actually in attendance, and not the correct hour of his death, which we believe was sometime long before. A coroner was never called to the facility. The entire day of his death none of us were contacted by the home - at all. Nor the day after that, nor the day after that. Their chosen form of communication is via TEXT. As stated, my brother found him on the floor, via a small video camera in his room, and called the home himself. Upon his arrival at the facility, my dad was completely bare (save for a diaper) on the floor (for at least an hour - probably more), completely uncovered. He covered Dad himself, with the comforter from his bed. The home is blaming the paramedics for not calling us (they did not), while RMAL were the ones charged with Dad's well being. We had been told they check rooms every two hours during the night, which is evidently not the case. To add insult to injury, all bodily fluids from my dad were on his sheets, crumpled up and left in a large pile in the middle of the bed for us to remove and dispose of ourselves - none of this was bagged. This is considered Bio-Hazardous Human Waste by the state of Colorado, and yet, it was left to lay in a fully occupied facility for three days before we removed it ourselves. Just a modicum of decency and compassion would have gone a long way. PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE LEAVING YOUR LOVED ONES TO THE CARE OF THIS FACILITY!

Next steps to sign up for the Assisted Living

  • To move into assisted living, which offers personal care support along with meals, housekeeping, and activities, start by contacting facilities to check services, availability, and pricing. A doctor’s evaluation can help if there are concerns about mobility, memory, or complex care needs, but a referral isn’t usually required. Assisted living is primarily private pay or covered by long-term care insurance, so it’s important to compare based on staffing levels, services offered, and resident reviews. After sending messages and getting prequalified through our site, the next step is to schedule a facility tour.
