How will I know when its time to think about hospice care for my mom?

This is so hard to think about, but I know I need to face it. Let me explain, my mom's dementia has gotten really bad lately and I'm wondering if we should be considering a hospice soon. I don't want to give up on her, but I also don't want her suffering needlessly. Any thoughts?
