I'm a bit lost, what steps can I take to plan for my elderly parents' long-term care arrangements, both financially and logistically?

Hey everyone, I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed here. Mom and Dad are in their 70s now and I know we need to start thinking about their future care, but I have no clue where to begin. Should I start to have that conversation with them? I'm worried we'll end up in a crisis situation if we don't plan ahead, but it all seems so complicated.

How do I bring up the topic of nursing home with my mother who's not keen on the idea?

What do you look for in a nursing home or long-term care facility to make sure it offers quality?

We're touring nursing homes for Dad next week and I'm terrified of choosing the wrong one. I've heard so many nursing home horror stories and I'm scared to death of putting Dad somewhere awful. Any advice from those who've been through this would be so appreciated.
