How do you make sure hired care aids are safe and competent for a loved one getting regular home care?

We just started having a home health aide come in to help my dad, and I'm nervous about it. I've heard horror stories about elder abuse and it's freaking me out. Do you do background checks? Set up cameras?

I totally get your worry - it's scary letting strangers into your home to care for your loved one. When we started with home care for my mom, we made sure to hire through a reputable agency that does thorough background checks and provides training. We also set up a nanny cam in the main living area just for peace of mind. But honestly, the best thing we did was pop in for surprise visits and chat with Mom regularly about how things are going. Trust your gut too, if something feels off, don't be afraid to speak up or switch aides.
