What changes can I make in the bathroom to make it safer for my husband who has mobility issues?

My husband's mobility has gotten worse lately and I'm worried sick about him falling in the bathroom. We can't afford a full remodel, but I know we need to do something to make it safer for him. Any DIY tips would be great, 'cause hiring someone is probably out of our budget right now.

There is a toilet safety frame/rails that goes right on the toilet. Insurance may pay for it. Easy to install.

If you can install hand rails or grab bars near the toilet he could use it to hold onto while he sits. Medicare will usually pay for them if he's on it. Removing any throw rugs helps from tripping as well as anything else loose on the floor. Nightlights work well if he gets up at night. I always tell my 90 yo mother "falls are not allowed"!
