Genetic testing and clinical trials

Does anyone else have a strong family history for dementia or other neurologic disorders? I’ve tried to enroll in a “non-affected” clinical trial, but have had no response. Has anyone successfully done this?

Yes, my family also has a history of dementia, and it’s frustrating trying to find the right trials. A lot of studies are very specific about eligibility, so it’s worth reaching out to the coordinators directly to ask if there are upcoming ones that fit your situation. Sometimes local universities or memory centers have lists of studies too, it helped me get on a waiting list even when the big trials said no

I too am wondering what I should do. My mom is 93 in the late stages of ALZ/dementia. I am 68 what research or testing should I be involved in. It is a horrible disease and any prevention or slowing the progression would be amazing.

We have found that UT San Antonio has a “brain bank” for the study of Alzheimer’s patient brains after they pass away. We are doing this with my Mom-discussed it with her before she became further advanced. I wish I had more information for us who are left as relatives
