What strategies have worked for you when your loved one gets agitated and aggressive with Alzheimer's?

My father has been lashing out lately - yelling, even trying to hit me sometimes when I try to help him bathe. It breaks my heart and I don't know how to handle it. The doc says it's part of the disease but that doesn't make it any easier. I'm at my wit's end here, any advice would be welcome.

Both of my parents went thru this, one passed in 2017 and another in 2021, and the best way that I found was to use a diversion tactic, like tying up wash towel or errant "orphaned" socks in semi-loose knots and asking for their help in untangling them during bath time. It like dealing with a much stronger and larger toddler just have to find the right toy for them to play with. Nothing hard that they can use to accidently harm themselves (or you). Hang in there...you're doing the best you can.
